Birdwings Forest School are the Gold Coast’s first forest school for 100% outdoor learning and adventure. Birdwings offer nature connection and forest school programs for children aged 18 months to 12 years. All programs are planned and mentored by qualified early childhood professionals with extensive experience in forest school leadership, outdoor playwork, creative arts and therapeutic practices.
Our current programs include:
WildPlay Adventurers – A mobile nature playgroup for families who like to explore, create and play in nature. This playgroup moves between sites to explore a variety of natural locations around the Gold Coast hinterland. For families with children aged 12 months to 6 years. Creative arts, bush crafts and traditional oral stories are celebrated weekly.
Little Birdwings Forest Kindy – Monday – Thursday, 8:30 – 4:00, Guanaba. A full-day outdoor kindy program for children aged 18 months to five years. Outdoors all day, the children experience gentle, relaxed, creative, social and adventurous play in wild nature. Our days are so joyful, following a predictable and flowing rhythm, making our own fun, even our own toys! Little Birdwings is the best kind of school-readiness program, where children learn crucial skills for independence in thinking, problem-solving, dressing and personal organisation.
Bush Club – Fridays, school terms only, 8:45 – 2:45, Guanaba. This weekly program has been a finalist in the QORF Outdoors Qld awards (2017 & 2018) and takes school-aged children into the creeks, wild rainforest and sclerophyll forest of Guanaba, at the base of Mt Tamborine. The children are involved in our conservation project to protect the habitat of the Richmond Birdwing Butterfly and will develop skills in nature awareness, bushcraft, deep ecology, nature journalling and social group behaviours. Bush Club is a multi-age program for children between 5 and 10 years.
School Holiday Forest School – Fridays, school holidays only, 9am – 3pm, Gold Coast. This is a fun and full day of adventure craft and games in bushland and the creek. Children aged 5- 12 years can get wet, build cubbies, cook on the campfire, learn bushcraft and PLAY with friends outdoors. Just how holidays should be for children.
