Our Vision

Birdwings celebrate children, natural childhoods and our connection to this place on Earth through immersive and intuitive nature play. Through our long-term nature connection programs children develop skills in personal growth, self-regulation, social connection, organisation and independence in self-care skills. We take children out of their busy schedules and give them time to play outside and have adventures with friends. There’s no rush and no screens. Play in wild nature allows children to embrace their best selves: capable, creative and courageous. See our programs to find one right for you.

Philosophy

We believe that the foundational development essential for children’s future academic learning is gained through active physical play, handcraft, social interaction with people of all ages, exploring natural curiosity and nature connection.

Connection to Country

Our programs operate across Kombumerri, Wangerriburra and Bullongin Country (Gold Coast Hinterland) and we honour these connections through language, story, stewardship of the land and active community connections. We acknowledge the process of Reconciliation is an ongoing and deeply important journey for all Australians.

Forest School Approach

Forest School is world-wide philosophical approach to nature connection and learning for children. It can be interpreted in many ways. Birdwings Forest School is founding and current committee members of the Australian Forest School Association (AFSA). Our programs and professional development are aligned with the AFSA Guiding Principles.
